Dr. John Hill, ISU professor emeritus of physics, will give a lecture this Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the Brunnier Art Museum starting at 2:00 p.m.  The title of his talk is “Composition and Production of Glass Through the Ages.”  He will discuss naturally produced glass followed by an examination of glass making from prehistoric times into the modern era. The emphasis will be on the various chemicals and minerals used to enhance the mechanical and visual properties of glass and will be illustrated with art glass from the permanent Brunnier collection. He will end with a short discussion of research on glass being done at Iowa State that may enhance the safety of Li batteries used in digital devices and electric cars.

This program is in conjunction with the Brunnier exhibition “Reflections of Iowa: The History of Iowa Questers through Glass.” It is free to everyone, and students are welcome to attend.  The Brunnier Art Museum is on the second floor of the Scheman Building on the ISU campus. There will be a reception following the lecture.
