Title: Ocean waves and Quantum Hall fluids
Abstract: The fluid dynamics of the ocean, influenced by the Earth's rotation, lead to fascinating wave phenomena with topological properties. In this talk, I will explore the similarities and differences between the fluid dynamical equations that govern ocean waves and the 'hydrodynamics' of Quantum Hall (QH) fluids. This exploration is akin to examining how an ideal fluid differs from a superfluid, or how a perfect conductor differs from a superconductor. Building on this analogy, I will develop a fluid dynamical framework for the QH state that offers certain advantages over current state-of-the-art approaches, particularly in addressing anomalous edge dynamics in both linear and non-linear regimes.
