SUMMARY:Astronomy Seminar: Curt Struck (ISU)
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Curt Struck (ISU)Title: The bar component in galaxies:
review and new results on resonant orbit families&nbsp\;Abstract: This ta
lk will begin with a pedagogical review of the phenomenology and theory of
the bar component in galaxies. The theory will include the processes that
drive bar formation such as gravitation instability\, near resonant orbit
capture\, and tidal triggering. Bar evolution via growth and slowdown\, t
he buckling instability\, change in resonant orbit structure\, and the for
mation of secular bulge and lens components will be described. The talk wi
ll conclude with a summary of my recent work on the families of resonant o
rbits\, and constraints on them in different ranges of pattern frequencies
in a variety of galaxy disk potentials.\n\nMore information at: https://w
