Abstract

Electroweak penguin quark transitions mediated by Flavor Changing Neutral Currents c-> u l l (where l is an electron or muon) are forbidden at tree level in the Standard Model. They proceed through an electroweak box or loop diagrams and are thus highly suppressed providing a new window for probing new physics. The Babar and LHCb experiments have observed some of the D0 -> h h' l+ l-  decay channels in the mass range 0.675 < m(ll) < 0.875 GeV where long-distance contributions dominate. In this talk, I will give an introduction to rare decays and my research objective. Then I will present my current study of the decay  D0 -> K- pi+ l + l- using the Belle experiment Monte Carlo.
