SUMMARY:Quantum Monte Carlo Methods with Chiral EFT Interactions as a Consi
stent Approach to Nuclei and Neutron Stars\, Ingo Tews\, Los Alamos Nation
 al Laboratory\, A401 Zaffarano Hall
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Neutron stars contain the largest reservoirs of degenerate ferm
ions\, reaching the highest densities we can observe in the cosmos\, and p
robe matter under conditions that cannot be recreated in terrestrial exper
iments. Throughout the Universe\, a large number of high-energy\, cataclys
mic astrophysical collisions of neutron stars are continuously occurring.
These collisions provide an excellent testbed to probe the properties of m
atter at densities exceeding the density inside atomic nuclei\, are an imp
ortant site for the production of elements heavier than iron\, and allow f
or an independent measurement of the expansion rate of our Universe.\n\nMo
