SUMMARY:Astronomy Seminar: Gaseous Inflows of the Milky Way
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Prof. Kat Barger\, Texas Christian University\n\nAbstract: Infl
owing gas that reaches the disk of our galaxy can replenish its interstell
ar medium with material that can be used to form the next generation of st
ars. In this talk\, we will survey gaseous inflows that are in different s
tages of accretion\, including gas that is presently interacting with the
Milky Way's disk. We will further discuss how the environments that surrou
nd these clouds impact their properties. Detailed investigations of the Mi
lky Way's gas flows in both emission- and absorption-line spectroscopy pro
vide us with crucial insight on how these processes occur at greater dista
nces where they cannot be fully resolved.\n\nOnline seminar\, for zoom inf
