Malvern K. Iles, 28, Ames, died of illness Thursday, May 19, at his home. Memorial services were held in Davenport today, May 24, and burial was in Davenport Memorial Park.

Mr. Iles was associate physicist at the Ames Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy where he was employed since 1975. He held a B.S. degree in physics from Iowa State University. He also did independent consulting and technical writing, was a member and advisor of the L-5 (space colonization) Society at ISU and was an avid mountain climber.

In the 1981 special election for state representative, he ran as the Libertarian candidate for District 42.

Mr. Iles was born June 11, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. He is survived by his father, Malvery K. Iles and a sister Lisa Paper, both of Pleasant Valley.
